Argonne National Laboratory Tour

The Chicago Local Section of the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) would like to invite you to a tour of Argonne National Laboratory, a U.S. Department of Energy science and engineering facility. The tour will include walkthroughs of several laboratory areas and test facilities. Participants will engage in discussions related to hazards faced by researchers at Argonne (such as reactive chemistry, nanoparticles, toxic & asphyxiant gases, cryogens, etc.), as well as the work planning and control process used to prevent incidents. The tour will be limited to 20 participants, so register today!

Date: April 12, 2019

Time: 10 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Please arrive no later than 10 a.m. at the Argonne Information Center. An Argonne bus has been reserved for your tour and will leave on time.

Location: Argonne Information Center, Northgate Road, Lemont, IL

Registration: All tour participants are required to complete a two-part registration:

  • Sign up for the tour with the Chicago Section AIHA

Members: $75
Affiliate Members and Guests: $85
Students: $30

The AIHA will accept credit card, check, cash, or PayPal in person on the day of the event. We apologize that the online payment system is not functional. Checks can be made payable to “Chicago Section AIHA.”

  • Register for an Argonne visitor pass using your name as it appears on your photo I.D. The online visitor pass registration system will ask for a sponsor/host email address – enter “gmoss@anl.gov”

Registration deadlines for two-part registration:

March 12: Non-U.S. citizen registration due

Note: As of January 31, 2019, all non-U.S. citizens, 18 years and older, need to upload a Curriculum Vitae (CV). CVs must provide all science and technology specialties, all work positions with no gaps in time, all educational degrees with years awarded, and current/accurate names of institutions attended. This information can be provided via the registration process by using the link above.

April 5: U.S. citizen registration due

Bring acceptable forms of I.D.: To obtain a visitor pass once you arrive at Argonne, you will need to bring acceptable forms of I.D.:

  • U.S. citizens will need to provide a state or federal photo I.D., such as a driver’s license or passport.
  • Non-U.S. citizens, including legal permanent residents, will need to provide a state or federal photo I.D., such as a driver’s license or passport, AND copies of their INS documents, such as permanent resident card or passport and visa and any other supporting documents, if applicable.
Dress code and other requirements: Long pants and flat, closed-toe shoes; no sandals or sleeveless shirts. No food or drink is allowed on tours. These items can be left on the tour bus. All visitors must prominently display their visitor passes while on Argonne’s campus. Note: Failure to comply with the requirements outlined here may result in your inability to participate in some parts of the tour; your payment to the AIHA will not be refunded.

Schedule:

10:00 am – 10:30 am Meet at Argonne Information Center and obtain your Argonne visitor pass

10:30 am – 12:30 pm Tours

12:30 pm – 1:30 pm Lunch (cafeteria-style lunch will be provided)

1:30 pm – 2:30 pm Tours

2:30 pm Return to Argonne Information Center and depart the laboratory
